The Freighthouse offers a unique dining experience for two basic reasons; first, atmosphere – you are dining in an authentic and historic railroad freighthouse, built in 1868, which saw the commerce of the Northeast Kingdom pass through its doors for more than a century. Secondly, and most importantly, our dedication to unsurpassed organic quality is our pledge to the commitment of setting an entirely new standard in the organic food revolution.

We further pledge not to compromise your health, or the health of our environment by offering “fast food;” usually a cheap and inferior product that will get you out of the restaurant and into poor health equally as fast. We don’t claim to be fast or cheap; that void is already filled. We do offer, without compromise, some of the most pure and highest quality food obtainable.

We are further committed to supporting only family farmers who, like ourselves, are committed to the humane treatment of animals and responsible stewardship of the land. We refuse to support commercial agricultural practices that contribute to the unnecessary confinement of animals, drug and hormone injections, soil erosion, and the use of chemicals in food production. By patronizing The Freighthouse you are also showing your commitment, and for this we commend and thank you.

…The Freight House is now a combination restaurant, railroad museum, local crafts gallery, coffee shop, ice-cream parlor, and information center. It’s one of two buildings left from the 22 built here by the Boston & Maine. Most Lyndonville families had ties with the railroad, and historic items came pouring in from the locals to create the museum exhibits. Walls are hung with vintage photos, glass-topped tables display documents, and upstairs there’s a working model railroad. What’s more, the food is fabulous: local meats, fresh greens and veggies, freshly baked breads, and the fluffiest omelets, plus Carmen’s wildly popular ice cream.”

The Freighthouse features a full service dining room and many local and organic products, Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages, homemade desserts, and our own certified organic grass fed beef.

We are a proud member of the Vermont Fresh Network.

Recent additions include organic wines and our own certified organic vegetables.
